It's mostly level on the way in, some up and down but just a pleasant hike. This trail goes over East Peak and to the junction of the Loop Trail. This is a difficult trail due to its length, verticle gains and losses, and navigation. We took the Parker Ridge trail up to Tumbledown Pond which was longer but much easier than either the Brook Trail or Tumbledown Trail. It levels out once you reach the ridge, which affords fantastic views and a refreshing breeze not found below the treeline. To reach the tarn right below the summit of Tumbledown, you have essentially four options: the 1.9-mile Brook Trail, the 2.9-mile Parker Ridge Trail, the 2-mile Loop Trail, and the 3.4-mile trek up the first part of Little Jackson trail over to Pond Link. Would definitely recommend this hike, actually you can take Morgan Road and go straight up little Jackson and around back down to the pond and back up tumble down and back down the trail head. The trail eventually comes out into the open and traverses Parker's Ridge. All in all the loop we took was 9 miles, moderate to hard grade at times. So, we figured that it would be quite easy to find the trail head. A view of Tumbledown Pond, and the mountain’s summit, from the Parker Ridge Trail, which departs from the Brook Trail not far from the road, and offers a slightly longer route to the pond, including some great rock scrambles. The Parker Ridge Trail, though also steep, is a more beautiful and a less rocky descent. In the past, to access this route, hikers had to travel into the woods on a private road called the Morgan Road, and park near a place locally known as "Tumbledown Field." Parker Ridge Trail was a very enjoyable ascent—although notably steeper as you go. You can take Parker Ridge 1.8 miles to Tumbledown Pond, if desired. Trail Work If you have been to Tumbledown in the past few years you know that the Brook Trail has been reconstructed; in some places years of erosion required rerouting of the trail.
